Consultations with Dr. Zain Safdar · MBBS, FCPS · Ikram Hospital, Gujrat
WHAT IT MEANS
Understanding the concern
Chest pain can have several causes. Coronary artery disease affects the blood supply to the heart, but symptoms alone do not establish a diagnosis. Clinical history, examination and selected investigations help guide the assessment.
When to discuss an evaluation
- Recurring chest discomfort that has already been assessed as non-urgent
- A previous coronary diagnosis needing follow-up
- Questions about an existing ECG or other cardiac report
PREPARE FOR YOUR VISIT

YOUR NEXT STEP
What to expect
Describe the location, duration and triggers of the discomfort, including whether it occurs during activity or at rest. Bring previous ECGs, discharge summaries and prescriptions. The clinician will discuss which further investigations, if any, could help answer the question.
Questions worth asking
- What could be causing the discomfort?
- Which symptoms require immediate emergency care?
- What is the purpose of any suggested investigation?
Ask for an explanation in words you understand, and check who to contact if you need help after the appointment.
